GIRONA 2 – OVIEDO 1 Baena and Stuani put a Girona in flight that leaves Oviedo KO

stroke of authority Girona thanks to a great punch, capacity for suffering, quality of Baena and Stuani’s voracity. The rojiblanco team consolidates in the playoff positions (takes three points from Cartagena, seventh) after the victory against Oviedo that he missed Borja Bastón and that Montiel appeared on stage earlier. Borja Sánchez put emotion into the duel with his 2-1but the truth is that the referee and the VAR also helped after not point out a possible penalty from Montiel on Arnau in the 94th minute.

Girona appeared much better on the scene and it was Álex Baena who pulled the car. Ten minutes were enough for the player on loan from Villarreal to the rojiblanco team to demonstrate his potential and leave Oviedo on the canvas. In minute 3 ‘he warned with a header that Femenías deflected perfectly, but the keeper couldn’t do anything before his shot from outside the area in minute 9’. Baena took advantage of a rainy ball after Jimmy’s clearance and made it 1-0 with a perfect, safe and accurate shot. Those from Ziganda were surprised again and again by Jairo and Arnau, the Girona bands, and it was not until after the half hour of the meeting when they fully took the pulse of the duel. The visiting coach ordered a system change (from 4-3-3 to 5-2-3), Luismi was placed as the third central defender, and the forces then seemed more evenly matched. There was even a clear chance for the visitors, in minute 34, by Jimmy, but Juan Carlos emerged.

Already in the second half, Oviedo increased the pressure and wanted to bet on a two-way duel, but they lacked a little more vertigo and success in the last meters. Quite the opposite of a Girona that waited for its moment to deal another blow to the rival through a Stuani who establishes himself as top scorer with his 16th goal. A lot of credit must also be given to Baena, who put him in flight with an excellent pass behind the Asturian center-backs, but the thing is that the Uruguayan defined, to a touch, in an exceptional way.

The 2-0 seemed to sentence the duel, but in minute 74, Borja Sánchez with his goal, after a pass full of quality from Montiel, insisted on making Oviedo believe. In minute 78, a shot by David Costas made Juan Carlos shine and that was the end of the Asturian options. There was excitement in the addition with lateral crosses, although Girona held on excellently and left Oviedo five points behind.
